Twenty From the Day...
Emily & Harsha | Old Farm Winery at Hartland Wedding in Aldie, Virginia
An Old Farm Winery at Hartland wedding is the kind of day that invites you to slow down, take it all in, and truly enjoy everything around you—and Emily and Harsha’s celebration did exactly that. Set in Aldie, Virginia, their wedding felt colorful, easygoing, and deeply romantic, with a focus on connection, family, and presence from start to finish.
I first met Emily and Harsha earlier in the year for their engagement session in Washington, DC. It was a very cold morning, but even then, their quiet connection and ease with one another was undeniable. That session set the tone for everything that followed: thoughtful, calm, and rooted in authenticity.
A Meaningful Beginning at Old Farm Winery at Hartland
Emily and Harsha’s wedding day marked a beautiful continuation of their story. Their first wedding took place in India, and this celebration at Old Farm Winery at Hartland was their American wedding—an opportunity to gather friends and family together in a way that felt personal and relaxed.
The winery’s landscape and open-air feel provided the perfect backdrop. As guests arrived, there was a sense of anticipation without rush—people greeting one another, laughter carrying across the lawn, and the feeling that this was a day meant to be enjoyed, not overproduced.
Emily wore a classic white wedding dress, timeless and elegant, while Harsha chose a blue suit that felt polished yet approachable. Together, they struck a beautiful balance of tradition and ease.
A Ceremony Filled With Presence and Emotion
The ceremony was one of those moments where everything felt grounded. Emily and Harsha are quiet by nature, but when they’re together, they truly come alive—and that energy was felt as they exchanged vows surrounded by the people they love most.
A live mini orchestra played during the ceremony, adding a layer of intimacy and romance that fit the setting perfectly. It was one of those moments where you could feel everyone fully present, soaking in the significance of the day.
Thoughtful Details and Time With Loved Ones
After the ceremony, guests moved seamlessly into cocktail hour, where lawn games encouraged conversation and connection. One of my priorities throughout the day was helping Emily and Harsha stay present—especially during family portraits. With many family members gathered, I gently directed and streamlined the process so photos moved quickly and smoothly, allowing them to return to cocktail hour and spend meaningful time with their guests.
This is one of the ways I love serving my couples: stepping in with calm direction when needed, then stepping back so they can fully enjoy their celebration.
A Reception Rooted in Family and Culture
The reception continued the relaxed, joyful tone of the day. One of the most special elements was the wedding cake—lovingly made by Emily’s mother. It was a beautiful, meaningful touch that made the celebration feel even more personal.
Guests were also treated to a variety of incredible Indian specialty foods, a nod to Harsha’s heritage and their first wedding in India. Watching friends and family enjoy these dishes together was a reminder of how food, culture, and community bring people closer.
Throughout the evening, Emily and Harsha moved easily through the space—laughing with friends, sharing quiet moments together, and clearly savoring the day they had so thoughtfully planned.
My absolute favorite part of the day being the dance between Harsha and his mother- my face hurt from all of the smiling.
A Day That Truly Reflected Them
Looking back on this Old Farm Winery at Hartland wedding, what stands out most is how true it felt to Emily and Harsha. Nothing felt forced or overdone. It was a day centered on connection, family, and being fully present—exactly the kind of celebration I love documenting.
As Emily shared afterward:
“From the very beginning of our interaction, Jonlaya was amazing… We loved how she wanted to make sure to capture us as we are… Our photos turned out amazing and I am so glad Jonlaya was there to capture those memories for us.”
