Couple running through The Winery at Bull Run fields

Twenty from the day...

Austin and Caren made the trip from Maine down to Northern Virginia to celebrate their wedding day with the people closest to them, and it truly couldn’t have felt more “them.” Their Winery at Bull Run wedding was thoughtful, relaxed, and centered on being present rather than putting on a show.

The Winery at Bull Run is one of those Northern Virginia wedding venues that gives you room to breathe. Between the open spaces, the vineyards, and the ceremony site tucked into the historic ruins, the day unfolded naturally and without feeling rushed.

A Ceremony Among the Ruins

The ceremony took place at the ruins, and it was such a grounding place to gather. There’s something really special about saying your vows surrounded by history and open air—it felt quiet, meaningful, and unpretentious. Guests settled in easily, conversations flowed, and the setting allowed everyone to really take in the moment.

Thoughtful Details

Florals are always a big love of mine, and I absolutely loved how Austin and Caren approached them. The groom and groomsmen wore floral ties, while the bridesmaids mixed solid colors with floral dresses—and somehow it all worked together perfectly. It felt intentional without being overdone, which matched the tone of the day so well.

This summer wedding at The Winery at Bull Run felt light and easy, from the dresses to the vineyard breeze to the way everyone moved through the space.

A Few of My Favorite Moments

There were so many good moments throughout the day, but a few that really stood out:

The groomsmen coming out and surprising Austin with a few throws into the air (always a crowd favorite)

Couples portraits tucked into the vineyard, with nothing but open space around us

The bride’s jewel-toned blue heels peeking out from under her dress

Austin and Caren choosing to walk in together for their ceremony

And my favorite moment of all—their first dance. Epic is the only word that fits

A Day That Felt True

What made this day special wasn’t just the setting (though The Winery at Bull Run really is a beautiful Northern Virginia wedding venue). It was how present Austin and Caren were with each other and their people. Nothing felt forced. Nothing felt rushed. It was simply a really good day, documented as it unfolded.

Congratulations, Austin and Caren. Your wedding was thoughtful, personal, and completely yours.

Weddings like this are why I do this work — family close, emotions honest, and space to be fully present.
